One of the things I love about downtown Raleigh is its very dynamic, fun loving, outgoing community. It’s one of the things that keeps me and Manuel so committed to the future of our downtown, because we know the people behind all the wonderful things Raleigh is known for. Last year, a group of downtown regulars got together and decided then to start an unofficial, unaffiliated Friday happy hour gathering to help bring everyone together once or twice a month. The idea was simple. Announce a location sometime during the week, spread the word through social media and those who wanted to participate would show up that Friday. The idea was a hit, and has now become a regular downtown gathering called Friday At 5.
As usual, Friday at 5 was announced via emails and on Twitter through the @FriAt5 account, which you can follow to get updates on future locations.
You. Me.

As you can see from the tweet above, Friday at 5 was held at Natty Greene’s, a local brewery in the Glenwood South district of downtown Raleigh. It’s a great location for a large group gathering (even though we’ve had Friday at 5 in all sizes throughout downtown), with an large bar, a games area, tons of seating and great bar food. There was a large gathering of awesome downtowners including city of Raleigh officials, local entrepreneurs, business owners and downtown residents. People were coming and going from around 4:30 pm until around 7pm. Friday At 5 can be a great start to a night out in town, or a quick networking stop. The best part is you will get to meet some very interesting people of different backgrounds, all interested in keeping Raleigh as the best city in America.
